Truth is Not Democratic

It has been reported that for 190 days, this South Korean girl has been protesting in front of The Occupiers’ embassy ALONE. I don’t know how accurate this is, I don’t know if she actually has been alone during the entirety of 190 days, but let’s imagine she has been; what is more beautiful than this? To stand for what is right, even if you have to do it all by yourself. Truth is not Democratic, and this South Korean girl is reminding us all of this fact.

Truth is mathematical; that means there is only one truth. “You” have to adjust yourself to it, not vice versa. And the idea of “a” religion is based on the idea of Truth. You don’t get to pick and choose among the commandments of “a” religion. But let’s imagine you start picking and choosing among the commandments; let’s imagine you are in a Liberal Democracy. Then how would you define what is “Good”? In a Liberal Democracy, “Good” is a conversation and so, as you can see in the West, there are no “set” values. There are values and they may have similarities with the religions values, but at the end of the day they are “manmade” values. The only legitimacy they can gain is the legitimacy that the majority of people can give them. And so, what people “want” is the determinant factor. And as you can see, people are different; some of them want abortion rights, some others want to dominate the world. Without God, all you have is your desires and they will become your God “Have you seen the one who has chosen his desires as his lord? God has knowingly caused him to go astray, sealed his ears and heart and veiled his vision. Who besides God can guide him? Will they, then, not take heed?” (Quran, chapter “crouching”, translated by Sarwar).

Truth can be very controversial, and so does Art. I believe Art must Provoke, but not because it undermines the social norms; Art must provoke because it is hinting at Truth, and sometimes it is synonymous with undermining the social norms.
