Brief in the Afternoon

A Young Girl, Yahya Sinwar and The Day of "Ashura"

After the martyrdom of Yahya Sinwar, I read a comment about him which was related to the last footage of him that was released by the Israeli regime. The comment had been made by a young girl:

I replied to her comment (I’ve made a few corrections):

“A few months ago, The Wall Street Journal published an article which was about the messages that Yahya Sinwar had sent, that likened the war in Gaza to a 7th-century battle in Karbala, Iraq, where in a monumental moment in Islamic history, Imam Husayn, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him and his Progeny) was martyred. To some extent, by the way he was martyred, brother Sinwar reminded me of Abbas, a brother of Imam Husayn. Abbas fought to his last breath to bring water for the children, because similar to Gaza, they had been deprived of water. And despite all his efforts and losing his two arms in the process, Abbas was not successful.

This battle is a key incident in Shia Ideology (Although Sinwar was not known to be a Shia) and has already played a key role for example in inspiring Iranian people to take part in Islamic Revolution. Another example is Hezbollah; if you listen to Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, you can see how often he has mentioned The Battle of Karbala and Imam Husayn in his speeches. And we also believe that it will play a key role in the future… Read about the battle in Karbala, and remember Imam Husayn…”

I also posted a photo of a painting by Iranian painter Hassan RoholAmin, which depicts the battle of Karbala.

The Israeli-US aggression against my country – Iran – took place weeks before the month of Muharram. For Iranian people “Muharram” is synonymous with holding mourning ceremonies for Imam Husayn. And after the so called “۱۲-Day war” started, I remember hearing something along the lines of this “These idiots attacked us right before Muharram!” And today is the day of Ashura, the tenth of “Muharram”; Imam Husayn was martyred on this day, while he was on his own; we are not going to let that happen again. We are not going to abandon our brothers and sisters in Gaza; this time around, Imam Husayn is not on his own.
